FASTING

Fasting is one of the most powerful tools Christians have at their disposal. Jesus expects that we will fast, based upon Matthew 6:16 “When you fast…”. Fasting simply brings the spirit man into ascendance over the flesh. It also limits the influence of the physical appetites so that you can more effectively hear from and respond to the Holy Spirit. This happens because when you fast your focus is more on prayer and seeking God’s will, which causes you to grow in your knowledge and intimacy with God. Fasting is a powerful weapon that helps bring transformation, revelation, deliverance, and breakthroughs.

To most effectively fast, clear your schedule from non-mandatory obligations and focus on God during this time .

GOALS

Ask God to replace your desires with His. Then, write down clear fasting goals.

  • Be specific about what you are expecting from God during the fast.

  • Whether it be healing, direction, restoration in marriage, family, finances, etc. If it matters to you, it matters to God.

  • If you make fasting about the why, it will be easier to hear from God about the what. He will lead you.

SCRIPTURE

Find a scripture that supports each goal. Ask God to show you what He says about each goal in His Word.

  • "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us... we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him (1 John 5:14-15)."

DAILY HABITS

Morning and Evening and any spare time in-between:

  • Spend time reviewing your goals and meditating on the scriptures God showed you.

  • Spend time praying over your goals and thanking God for them in prayer and worship. Praying in the Holy Spirit is key, here!

  • Read your Impact Family Church Daily Bible Reading Plan.

  • Read Christian books.

  • Listen or watch sermons.

  • Attend prayer times with church family. This will teach you how to pray effectively.

TIPS

  • Set aside social media, music that does not align with the Word of God, and all TV time, unless it is a sermon.

  • Replace any pleasure reading with the Bible and other Christian books.

  • Any time you feel hungry, that is your trigger to read the Word of God or listen to a sermon!
