Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is
Water Baptism?

Baptism comes from the Greek word baptizo, meaning to immerse fully in water.

When someone is baptized, they go under the water and rise back up. Going under symbolizes being buried with Christ—your old, sinful life is gone. Coming out of the water represents being raised to new life in Him and committing to follow Jesus.

Baptism reflects three key moments in Jesus’ story:

  • Death – you die to your old self and commit to Christ.

  • Burial – your past is left in a watery grave.

  • Resurrection – you rise clean, alive, and made new!

2

Why is Water Baptism important?

Baptism is a public declaration of your faith in Jesus—an outward sign that you’ve accepted Him and are committed to a new life.

It’s also an act of following Jesus’ example, since He was baptized to fulfill God’s plan.

Scripture shows its meaning:

  • Romans 6:4 — baptism identifies you with Jesus’ death and resurrection

  • Matthew 28:19 — Jesus commands us to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

Baptism is a simple but powerful act of obedience that publicly shows your faith and your new life in Christ.

3

Do I need to be baptized to go to Heaven?

No, Baptism does not save you.

Salvation comes from being born again—believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that Jesus died and rose again.

Through that faith, you are forgiven, cleansed, and made new.

When you receive Jesus, the Holy Spirit lives in you. After that, you can also receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit, which is a separate experience from water baptism.
